Demo V05 Update


After feedback and seeing some issues with the boss getting stuck this is a smaller patch to fix things up. Fixing some errors that could cause soft locks related to the boss and adding more impact to combat with reworked hit effects along with a few new moves to try out. Also got some new sound effects implemented. This is a kind of in progress incomplete update as I am continuing to tweak but due to the soft locked boss I am pushing things out quicker.

New Features

  • New attacks added
    • Light Hold > Jump = upward twirl slash
    • Heavy Hold release = jumping flip slash
    • Heavy Hold > Dash OR Dash > Heavy = flip slash to launch enemies away
    • Heavy, Heavy, Light = spinning, rolling attack
  • New hit effects
    • When hitting an enemy shaped damage flashes will appear based on type of damage and how hard the hit was
    • Reworked enemy damage visual effects
    • Player animation will briefly pause when hitting an enemy
    • Enemies will display a brief white flash when hit

Tweaks

  • Updated the project from Unity 2018.4 to 2019.3
  • Turned on incremental gc to help with with frame drops during unity garbage collection
  • A number of new sounds have been added for player attacks and enemy movement/attacks
  • Adjusted particle effects of enemy attack warnings to be more visible
  • Reduced color saturation on enemy debris to not clutter and hide living ones
  • Reduced input pause time after heavy attacks to allow them to be chained quicker in combat and be more useful

Fixes

  • Fixed an error that caused the worm boss to get visually stuck and glitchy on low framerates. Each section should now move correctly regardless of hardware limitations
  • Fixed the boss health meter to better follow how much health it has left
  • Fixed an error where the worms hp could be damaged through its next stage and soft locked.
  • Reworked enemy debris system to fix chunks bouncing oddly
  • Fixed an error where grabbing enemies quickly could not actually grab them

Known Issues

  • Player physics can sometimes cause big launches into the air  in some situations
  • It was reported that some people are having loading issues for the demo. I added an invisible button on the Hounds of Valor title that loads the first mission directly, try that if you have issues.
  • Lighting may have issues on level start and few objects being dark as part of the in progress lightmaps
