Every dog CAN be a hero!
Hounds of Valor
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Hounds of Valor is a character action game starring a sword wielding dog battling monsters in a single player adventure. The game-play utilizes fast paced combat in a fantasy world where dogs are the heroes.
Inspiration comes from the ps2 classics Okami and God of War.
What is in this Demo?
I am calling this a Vertical Slice of the game, it has the near final visuals, base combat , level structure and a boss fight. I have remixed the first mission of the game to create a quick 10-15 minute showcase of my work so far. The current build is missing some sound effects like enemy movement, some attacks and boss music.
Hounds of Valor is still in development and feedback is critical for refinement and evolution, all is welcome. I will continue to update this page as development progresses.
As a dog you have melee attacks like light, heavy and bash, each of these have different functions when held down, chained together or used mid air. Experiment as there are quite a lot of them in the game already! Psst, try holding heavy attack while at the apex of a double jump!

What is to Come
I have been working on this game for over 3 years in my spare time from a full time job. Now Hounds of Valor is ready to be seen on a larger scale!
Any shares to others can help tremendously to get the word out.

The download is a simple Unity executable. Unzip and run HoundsofValor.exe
A gamepad is recommended for play but keyboard and mouse support is present.
This is a full 3d game with pretty heavy graphics so not every machine may be able to run it well. Lowering the graphics settings and disabling grass may help. I will be able to determine minimum/recommended specs after further feedback and testing.
On my laptop I am able to hold 60fps 1080p save for some frame drops that I am in the process of fixing. I am playing on a Intel i7-6700HQ cpu and a Geforce GTX 1060 gpu. Please report any odd looking graphics or poor performance. You can do so here.

Nice demo, shows potential. Collision can be weird sometimes, leading to some big jumps but it's not a major thing. Can't wait to see more doggy heroics. :)
OMG it is so good I love it soo much but is it possible that u cna add like a low detail mode that makes everything more smoother for low-end computers like me. BTW I would pay like atleast 7$ for this so good
There is a low graphics setting and a toggle to turn off terrain grasses to help. But yes more graphics options are necessary in the future to help lower end computers more. If you have a chance PM me your specs and what framerate you are getting on the current low settings.
Got it (Sorry i've been gone for a while doing some stuff) I give u some information on how my computer handles your game and I will also give u some information on what type of computer i am using so you can have an idea of what graphic changes you can do. Thank You
EDIT: My computer graphics system is a - AMD E-300 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics- exact words. I'll try to show u a game play of how my game handles your game also I will try and show you how much CPU it consumes for me to play it. hope you see this message its been a brief while since I replied. Also I hope you publish this game on steam that would be GREAT I would totally pay for this. Please keep making more content for this its great.
Sound is ok
Jumping is a bit extreme but still fun
Fighting is fun
Graphics are cool
There is a few glitches that occur when you stand near walls, but other then that I greatly enjoyed the game! The controls feel really nice and responsive and I love the style it's made in! I played this on my twitch and had a lot of fun!
Thanks a lot for playing! I assume you are speaking of the camera hiding system which sometimes makes walls ahead of you disappear. It's a fine tuning issue that is on going to make sure things hide to let you see where you are/going but not make objects hide unnecessarily. Its getting closer to a final state but will still have a few oddities now and then.
That's not what I am actually referring to. In the area with two cabins if you stand between them the camera will move underneath the ground if you are to close to one of the walls. that's what I mean ^.^
Any chance of a Linux build? I can't seem to get it running through Wine.
I was not sure if there would be a want for it, but I went and exported a linux standalone build for you. I do not have a linux machine to test so let me know if it has any issues!
Thank you! I had some issues using a dualshock 4 controller (specifically, controls bound to triggers weren't working, the player character's neutral state was to inch towards the camera rather than stand still, and d-pad axes were swapped), but those issues went away when I tried unplugging my controller and using mouse & keyboard instead. Aside from that, I didn't notice any obvious bugs.
Also, the gameplay was very fun. I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks for letting me know, there likely are some axis's switched around for dualshocks and seems there is a dead zone issue for the analog sticks on that controller too. I will grab one of those controllers and make sure its working the same across as many controllers as I can manage.
It looks so cool!!!
I am on a tablet and all I want to do is play and I literally can't
I am sorry for that! In order to port to mobile touchscreen would be a pretty heavy undertaking so I am sticking to gamepad and keyboard/mouse for now.
I enjoyed the game and I am looking for further updates! :)
Here Is my video to your game. It's really good. I left even some personal opinions on this. At the end of my video. Still I much appreciated this. Nice work.
this game looks amazing and is really cool so far! I played and recorded it for Youtube but the video will be published in January since i will be out with family over the holidays, but im eager to learn and see more!
The only thing i would suggest to change is the camera handling, it feels awkward to not be able to move the camera with mouse movement, but the press of the mousewheel wich might trigger the change of ranged weapons while moving the camera.
The combat and movement of the game is great! the Animation of the dogs pulling out the sword and fighting is spectacular as well. Waiting for the full game!!!
This game looks awesome! Keep up the good work and we will hopefully see this game be a very popular and very fun game.
hey i found a glitch where it wouldn't let me click main menu or restart level unless i went on then off then back on again really fas
Thanks for letting me know, testing I cannot replicate the issue in v02. What platform and specs were you playing on?
Those grass gave me botw vibe hahaha.
I have actually heard the botw grass comparisons a lot, I guess I ended up getting the colors pretty close! Thanks for playing!
This game is very cool.
Amazing game dev had so much fun playing it :) i hope you enjoy my gameplay
Thank you for your very kind words! Much appreciated as I keep on the development!
I really enjoyed this game and I would love to see it continued! also can you add a way to manually control the camera angle mine kept weirding out.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qua92ntS4w8&feature=youtu.be
Thanks for playing! I am going through the video now for your feedback and spotted bugs. Love your enthusiasm and honesty where things aren't working quite right!
You can actually control the camera with F on the keyboard, hold F then move the mouse to look where you want. For a game like this a gamepad will always be the best option but I will see what can be done to smooth out things for anyone without one.
Edit: I found the camera issue! Its something I have not had to deal with using a gamepad but thanks for highlighting the problem! Fix will be in the next update with other tweaks.
Hey Queen, would you mind providing some system specs? I noticed the lighting took a very long time to load in and it was running at low framerate. Want to make sure the game can run as well as possible on peoples machines.
I actually had a ton of fun playing this game I hope it gets more support I found two secrets for sure I think I found the third secret at the end or some kind of secret but I couldn't get it cause I was hovering magically but my play through here (once it processes):
Thanks for playing Fluffey! I think you had some very good feedback. I have been tuning the game pretty heavily on the easy side but can definitely experiment making things tougher. Was planning on having settings for that and doing it sooner may be a good thing to include in the next update.
That actually wasn't the third secret, that just was the last part of the full level I have turned off for the demo, just got above the level ceiling.
The real third secret is by the corn field, there is a part of the cliff with a crack which should speak to your inner Zelda/Okami instincts.
Again thanks for your candid input and reaction! It does really help to watch someone playing it without any of my usual setup.
